LOT 1578 ORIGINAL ELDER

LOT 1578 ORIGINAL ELDER WAND FROM HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS 1 AND 2 This wand was used in the production of the movies “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” part 1, 2010, and part 2, 2011 directed by David Yates and produced by Warner Bros. Pictures. The Elder Wand was used by both actor Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort and actor Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. Dimensions: 36 cm. Provence: American private collection. This wand is at the center of the story in the final movies of the Harry Potter saga. It is known to be the most powerful wand in the world and it used to belong to Albus Dumbledore, one of the most important characters in the movies as well as one of the most loved ones by the audience. At the end of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – part 1” Voldemort stole the wand from Dumbledore’s grave trying to master the wand and its power. In the final part of the movie “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – part 2” Harry Potter wins back the Elder Wand as its rightful owner. The Elder Wand is the only wand in the whole saga that has its own story, from when it was created by Death itself as a gift for one of the brothers in “The Tale of the Three Brothers”, a story inside the fictional children’s book “The Tales of Beedle the Bard”, passing through various owners such as the dark wizard Gellert Grindewald, Albus Dumbledore, Voldemort and finally Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling describes the wand telling us that it is made of elder wood, obviously, and a Thestral hair, a fictional animal strongly connected with death. This is certainly the wand with the most recognizable design of all. It was designed by artist and prop maker Pierre Bohanna. About the Elder Wand he says: “What makes it so recognizable among all the other wands, it is that it is not just one of the thinnest wands but it has those very beautiful small knots”, he also claims that, at the time they created the design, they did not know that this wand was going to become so important as one of the Deathly Hallows, but “since the beginning, you can easily recognize it even from a distance, and it is just how it should be, since it is the undisputed queen of all wands, compared to which all the others disappear”. The two movies in which this wand was used were a commercial success, especially part 2 being the highest grossing film in 2011 and the highest-grossing film in the Harry Potter series, as well as in the Wizarding World franchise. The film won several awards and was nominated for many more, including three nominations at the Academy Awards for Best Art Direction, Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects. LOT 1579 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH OF LUNAR MODULE AS11-40-5962 Iconic photography of the Space Era, certified by NASA and taken in 1969. Printed on KODAK paper. Dimensions: 20 x 25 cm. Provenance: NASA. Down-Sun photograph of the Lunar Module taken by astronaut Neil Armstrong during his return from the rim of Little West Crater. We can see the shadow of Armstrong taking the picture on the down left corner of the picture. While Armstrong was taking pictures Aldrin was still at the MESA, a framework for analyzing traces of messagebased systems. LOT 1580 ORIGINAL SUPERMAN RETURNS KRYPTONITE An original shard of kryptonite crystal used in the production of superhero movie Superman Returns, 2006. This shard of kryptonite is made of light-weight rubber material. Dimensions: 12,5 x 6,5 cm. Provenance: American private collection.. Kryptonite became so iconic that was used as a plot device not just in Superman movies and comics but also in tv-shows, animated shows, video games and songs. Due to Superman‘s popularity kryptonite has become a byword for an extraordinary exploitable weakness, synonymous with “Achilles’ heel”. The mineral known as kryptonite was introduced in the radio serial The Adventures of Superman, in the story “The Meteor from Krypton”, broadcast in June 1943, as a plot device for Superman to discover his origin. In the radio serial, Krypton was located in the same solar system as Earth, in the same orbit, but on the opposite side of the Sun. This provided an easy explanation for how kryptonite found its way to Earth. Kryptonite was incorporated into the comic mythos with Superman #61 (November 1949). Editor Dorothy Woolfolk stated in an interview with Florida Today in August 1993, that she “felt Superman’s invulnerability was boring”. Originally kryptonite was red in color and did not adopt its characteristic green hue until Action Comics #161 (Aug. 1951). Superman Returns is a 2006 American superhero film directed and co-produced by Bryan Singer. It is based on the DC Comics Character Superman and serves as a homage sequel to the motion pictures Superman (1978) and Superman II (1980). During the film Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) reveals his grand scheme: using one of the stolen Kryptonian Crystals to grow a new landmass. Superman (Brandon Routh) discovers this landmass is filled with kryptonite, which allows Luthor and his henchmen to beat and torture him. Shards such as this can be seen scattered across this landmass. LOT 1581 ORIGINAL HARRY POTTER HOGWARTS ENVELOPE This is the original envelope from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry received by Harry Potter in the first movie, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, 2001. Dimensions: 18,5 x 13,5 cm. Provenance: British private collection. The envelope is made from marble-effect paper, with Harry’s address printed in green on the front of the envelope, and the Hogwarts crest on the reverse. This is one of the envelopes that were flying through the air in Harry’s house and it can be clearly seen in the movie. The envelope has a printed seal on the back in order to keep the prop envelopes light so they would fly around the room. The envelope received by Harry Potter to announce him his admittance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is one of the most iconic and recognizable items of the whole Harry Potter movie series. At the time of the movie hundreds of thousands of young boys and girls all around the globe were dreaming of receiv ing the same admission letter, making this envelope one of the most desirable in the whole world. Harry Potter and the Philosopher‘s Stone (released in the United States as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer‘s Stone) is a 2001 fantasy film directed by Chris Columbus and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is based on J. K. Rowling‘s 1997 novel of the same name. The film is the first instalment of the Harry Potter film series. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, with Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. The film was released to cinemas in the United Kingdom and United States on 16 November 2001. It became a critical and commercial success, grossing 5.1 million at the box office worldwide. The highest-grossing film of 2001, it is the 46th highest-grossing of all-time. LOT 1582 RARE ORIENTED CHONDRITE METEORITE North West Africa. Exceptional Chondrite meteorite with regmaglypts. Dimension: 17 x 14 cm. Weigh: 3273 g. Provenance: Italian private collection. Oriented meteorites have frozen in their shape and surface the record of their fiery passage through the Earth’s atmosphere. All meteorites arrive on the surface of our world by the same experience, but only the rare few that are stable during flight will show the marks of ablation and accumulation. These are the oriented meteorites and are the rarest kind of chondrites. Some of these marks are radial flow lines, splattered material clinging to the sides behind the forward surface, and lips and ridges of melted material that has flowed as liquid back from the front. These marks are called regmaglypts. Chondrites are stony (non-metallic) meteorites that have not been modified due to melting or differentiation of the parent body. They are formed when various types of dust and small grains that were present in the early solar system accreted to form primitive asteroids. Their study provides important clues for understanding the origin and age of the Solar System, the synthesis of organic compounds, the origin of life and the presence of water on Earth. Chondrites were formed by the accretion of particles of dust and grit present in the primitive Solar System which gave rise to asteroids over 4.55 billion years ago. These asteroid parent bodies of chondrites are (or were) small to medium-sized asteroids that were never part of any body large enough to undergo melting and planetary differentiation. The scientific community generally accepts that these spheres were formed by the action of a shock wave that passed through the Solar 60 HAMPEL FINE ART AUCTIONS * for more detailed photos browse www.hampel-auctions.com

System, although there is little agreement as to the cause of this shock wave. An article published in 2005 proposed that the gravitational instability of the gaseous disk that formed Jupiter generated a shock wave with a velocity of more than 10 km/s, which resulted in the formation of the chondrules. LOT 1583 AUTHENTIC AND EXTREMELY RARE MARS METEORITE This is a Martian basalt meteorite of the Shergottite group, an extremely rare fragment of extraterrestrial matter. Northwest Africa 13506 is the official meteorite name. It was found in 2020 in the desert of Algeria. Weight: 212 g. Provenance: Private collection. Meteorites from Mars are among the most exotic substances on Earth. The determination of the Martian origin of select meteorites is the result of research conducted by hundreds of scientists throughout the world. In addition to many arcane markers, these unique meteorites share the following fundamental characteristics: they exhibit an unusually young crystalline age (so they can‘t be from Earth); they contain water-bearing minerals (so they can‘t be from the asteroid belt – the place of origin of 99.9% of all meteorites); there is evidence of a planetary sized gravitational field on their crystalline structure (which makes the most likely candidates of origin our two closest neighbors: Venus and Mars). The link to Mars was speculative until an analysis was conducted on the glassy inclusions of a meteorite suspected to be of Martian origin. In this glass were tiny voids, and in these voids were tiny volumes of gas. In 1997 the technology existed to analyze the gas and it matched perfectly with the signature of the Martian atmosphere as reported by NASA‘s Viking Missions to Mars. As is the case with lunar meteorites, the delivery mechanism was an asteroid impact, which jettisoned material off of the Martian surface into an Earth-intersecting orbit. LOT 1584 ORIGINAL CHIPS FROM THE MOVIE “CASINO ROYALE” These chips were produced and used for the James Bond movie “Casino Roayal” directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Eon Productions for the Metro-Goldwin-Mayer and Columbia Pictures in 2006. Dimensions: 3.5 cm. Provenance: American private collection. Casino Royale is a 2006 spy film, part of the James Bond franchise. It is the first film to star Daniel Craig as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond at the beginning of his career as Agent 007, as he is earning his licence to kill, showing us a less experienced and more vulnerable Bond. It received an overwhelmingly positive critical response, with reviewers highlighting Craig‘s reinvention of the character and the film‘s departure from the tropes of previous Bond films. It earned 606 million dollars worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing James Bond film of all time, until the release of Skyfall in 2012. The most iconic scene in the movie is of course the one at the Casino Royale, which also gives the title to the whole movie. There Agent 007 takes part in a Texas hold’em poker game to stop his enemy Le Chiffre to win back the money he lost to finance international terrorism. Here the chips can be clearly seen as the protagonists of the whole scene, both in the first and second part of the game. They were custom made specifically for the movie by CartaMundi in their production division, Copag, in Brazil. The company produces cards and chips for professional poker players and casinos all around the world. That is why the chips are beautifully crafted and even from close up they have a perfect and professional look making them a unique and exquisitely manufactured Hollywood memorabilia. The Casino Royale scene is so relevant for the development of the story that when releasing the movie in China they added a verbal explanation of the Texas hold’em game, which is not very popular there, so they could understand perfectly this extremely important scene. On 14 October 2005 Eon Productions, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and MGM announced at a press conference in London that Daniel Craig would be the sixth actor to portray James Bond. Controversy followed the decision, with some critics and fans expressing doubt the producers had made the right choice. Throughout the entire production period, Internet campaigns such as “danielcraigisnotbond.com” expressed their dissatisfaction and threatened to boycott the film in protest. Craig, unlike previous actors, was not considered by the protesters to fit the tall, dark, handsome and charismatic image of Bond to which viewers had been accustomed. Despite these first critics, appeared before the movie was even released, after the premiere everybody totally changed their opinion, and praised Daniel Craig as one of the best James Bond of all time. Andrew Sarris of The New York Observer wrote that this particular Bond film is “the very first that I would seriously consider placing on my own yearly 10-best list. Furthermore, I consider Daniel Craig to be the most effective and appealing of the six actors who have played 007, and that includes even Sean Connery”. The film was described as taking James Bond “back to his roots”, similar to “From Russia with Love”, where the focus was on character and plot rather than the high-tech gadgets and visual effects.
