122 STEFANO DE’

122 STEFANO DE’ FEDELI, LOMBARDISCHER MEISTER, TÄTIG IN DER 2. HÄLFTE DES 15. JAHRHUNDERTS DIE HEILIGEN PETRUS UND PAULUS Öl, Tempera auf Goldgrund auf Holz. 82 x 54,5 cm. A.R. STEFANO DE’ FEDELI, LOMBARD MASTER, ACTIVE IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 15TH CENTURY SAINTS PETER AND PAUL Oil, tempera on gold ground on panel. 82 x 54.5 cm. The painter is known to have been active in Lombardy between 1460 and after 1480. The panel shows the Saints Peter and Paul standing side by side with their respective attributes: book, key, and sword. The painting shows stylistic parallels to the panels by Stefano de’Fedeli in the Gli Sforza - Museo del Duomo di Monza. There is another version of “Saints Peter and Paul“ in which Paul holds the sword pointing upwards. Fedeli’s “The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist“ is held at the same collection. The current panel painting can therefore be appreciated as an equally important and rare example of early painting in northern Italy. Literature: Marco Tanzi (ed.), Stefano De Fedeli.
