during the early moments of the first extravehicular activity (EVA) of the mission. Shadows of the Lunar Module (LM), astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, who took the photograph and lunar module pilot, and the erectable S-Band Antenna surround the scene of the third flag implanting to be performed on the lunar surface. While astronauts Shepard and Mitchell descended in the LM “Antares” to explore the Fra Mauro region of the moon, astronaut Stuart A. Roosa, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) “Kitty Hawk” in lunar orbit. LOT 1568 AUTHENTIC CANYON DIABLO METEORITE An authentic Canyon Diablo meteorite from Arizona. Dating: 4,55 billion years. Dimensions: 6 x 8 cm. Weight: 528 g. Provenance: Private collection. The Canyon Diablo meteorites include the many fragments of the asteroid that created Barringer Crater (Meteor Crater), Arizona, United States. Meteorites have been found around the crater rim, and are named for nearby Canyon Diablo, which lies about three to four miles west of the crater. The asteroid fell about 50,000 years ago. The meteorites have been known and collected since the mid-19th century and were known and used by pre-historic Native Americans. The Barringer Crater, from the late 19th to the mid-20th century, was the center of a long dispute over the origin of craters that showed little evidence of volcanism. In 1953, Clair Cameron Patterson measured ratios of the lead isotopes in samples of the meteorite. The result permitted a refinement of the estimate of the age of the Earth to 4.550 billion years. LOT 1569 ORIGINAL IRON MAN GAUNTLET FROM MOVIE “IRON MAN 2” This glove was used in the production of the 2010 movie “Iron Man 2” directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Marvel Studios. Dimensions: 30 x 13 cm. Provenance: American private collection. This gauntlet was used by actor Robert Downey Jr. in his role as Tony Stark/ Iron Man during the filming of the second movie dedicated to the superhero. The glove includes a functioning light which makes it 100% sure it was used on screen. Iron Man is certainly one of the most loved superheroes of all times, especially thanks to the many movies that feature him in the Marvel Universe. Iron Man possesses powered armor that gives him superhuman strength and durability, flight, and an array of weapons. The weapon systems of the suit have changed over the years, but Iron Man‘s standard offensive weapons have always been the repulsor rays that are fired from the palms of his gauntlets. The gauntlet is probably the most recognizable feature of Iron Man suit together with the helmet. The design of his spectacular suit is unmistakable and many artists contributed to its final exceptional look. First we have the work of Ryan Meinerding and Daren Dochterman the conceptual illustrators that prepared the design that was chosen by production designer J. Michael Riva that says: “It was decided early on that we wouldn’t change the helmet and just try and find a way to make the rest of the suit feel a little bit more advanced”. Then, after the new look was decided they passed the job to Ironhead Studio and his director and founder Jose Fernandez, famous prop maker and artist that realized all the “Iron Man 2” suits. LOT 1570 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH OF ASTRONAUT JAMES B. IRWIN ON MOON SURFACE AS15-86-11603 Iconic photography of the Space Era, certified by NASA and taken in 1971. Printed on KODAK paper. Dimensions: 20 x 25 cm. Provenance: Nasa. Apollo 15 was the ninth crewed mission in the United States‘ Apollo program and the fourth to land on the Moon. It was the first J mission, with a longer stay on the Moon and a greater focus on science than earlier landings. Apollo 15 had the first use of the Lunar Roving Vehicle. Astronaut James B. Irwin, lunar module pilot, works at the Lunar Roving Vehicle during the first Apollo 15 lunar surface extravehicular activity (EVA) at the Hadley-Apennine landing site. The shadow of the Lunar Module “Falcon” is in the foreground. This view is looking northeast, with Mount Hadley in the background. This photograph was taken by astronaut David R. Scott, commander. LOT 1571 EXTREMELY RARE DRONINO METEORITE Extremely rare Dronino Meteorite found in Ryazan Oblast, Russia in 2000. About 4 billion years. Dimensions: 24 cm. Weight: 7500 g. Provenance: Private collection. There is no other meteorite that looks like Dronino and the specimen now offered is remarkable. With a platinum-hued patina, this is a decorative example of a singularly exotic meteorite. Dronino evidences what is perhaps the most richly hewn surface texture of a meteorite known to exist. While the vast majority of iron meteorites are members of established chemical groups, 11% have no chemical relation to anything previously known and Dronino is one of these exotic, ungrouped irons. The implication of Dronino’s unique chemical signature is that it originated from a previously unknown parent asteroid. Dronino meteorites were recovered approximately 20 kilometers from an ancient town founded in 1152. As nothing was ever written about what would have been an extremely memorable event of a fireball accompanied by sonic booms and a smoke trail, it can be inferred that Dronino‘s arrival occurred when the area was unpopulated. From the distribution of the meteorite fragments it has been estimated that the meteorite formed a crater with a diameter of 30 m. The Dronino meteorite is classified as an ataxite (iron meteorite). The meteorite is named after the village Dronino where it was found. The meteorite was discovered by Oleg Gus’kov in July 2000 on his way home from mushroom collecting near the village of Dronino. He noticed a rusty piece of iron protruding from the ground. Suspecting it to be a meteorite but unable to exhume it, he returned the next day with a shovel and wheelbarrow. He brought the meteorite to his house, where it lay in his garden for the next two years. In this time the meteorite broke into three pieces. Gus’kov sawed one of the pieces apart upon which he realized that it was definitely a meteorite. After that he alerted different experts of his discovery. LOT 1572 ORIGINAL THOR’S HAMMER FROM THE MOVIE AVENGERS: ENDGAME This hammer was used in the production of the movie “Avengers: Endgame” released in 2019 by Marvel Studios and directed by Anthony e Joe Russo. It was used both by actor Chris Hemsworth as Thor and by actor Chris Evans as Captain America. Dimensions: 50 x 24 x 14 cm. Provenance: American private collection. Thor’s Hammer is certainly one of the most iconic objects seen in the Marvel Universe and beyond. Today everyone knows this hammer thanks to the Infinity Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where it is seen a lot with a very relevant presence in many movies. This one comes specifically from the last movie of the saga “Avengers: Endgame” which is currently the highest-grossing film of all time. It was used in the production of the movie both by actor Chris Hemsworth as Thor and by Captain America played by actor Chris Evans. This unmistakable design was created by artist and concept designer Charlie Wen and then realized by Propshop Model Makers. The man that decided the final look of the hammer and worked as the liaison between the manufacturing world and the design world is Russell Bobbitt, the property master of Marvel Studios. The work behind this design and its realization was huge as Bobbitt recalls in an interview, explaining the different steps after the look was decided on paper, “then we had to figure out what size would look good in Thor’s hand. We had three camera tests solely for that purpose. I’m not kidding. It was that intense. Once we had the size and scale, we started tweaking the look of it: Should it be a little darker, a little lighter, should it be shiny, should it be dull, is the leather on the handle aged appropriately, should the little strap on the end be there or not be there?”. It was just after answering to this questions that the work of Propshop Model Maker studio began and the three dimensions hammer was finally realized. has its own name, Mjölnir which means “the crusher” as we can imagine from what we have seen in the many movies featuring it. Mjölnir, as part of the Marvel Universe first appears in Journey into Mystery #83 (August 1962), it was created by writer Stan Lee and immediately established as the main weapon of the Thunder god Thor Odinson. Mjölnir is forged by Dwarven blacksmiths, and is composed of the fictional Asgardian metal uru. The side of the hammer carries the inscription “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor”. As one of the most formidable weapons known to man or god, it is described as impacting with sufficient force to “level mountains”, creating vortices and forcefields, emitting mystical blasts of energy, controlling electromagnetism. When Thor calls for it verbally or mentally, it will return to his hand despite any intervening obstacles or distance, even traveling through planets to return to him. When it is deliberately thrown by Thor, he is able to control its trajectory. If dropped or set aside, it takes a fixed position, from which it cannot be moved except by a ‘worthy’ individual. LOT 1573 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH OF DISCOVERY ILLUMINATED BY EARTH’S SUNRISE S26-46048 Iconic photography of the Space Era, certified by NASA and taken in 1988. Printed on KODAK paper. Dimensions: 20 x 25 cm. Provenance: NASA. STS-26 was the 26th NASA Space Shuttle mission and the seventh flight of the orbiter Discovery. STS-26 was declared the “Return to Flight” mission, being the first mission after the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster of 28 January 1986. It was the first mission since STS-9 to use the original STS numbering system, the first to have all its crew members wear pressure suits for launch and landing since STS-4, and the first mission with bailout capacity since STS-4. STS-26 was also the first U.S. space mission with an all-veteran crew since Apollo 11, with all of its crew members having flown at least one prior mission. LOT 1574 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH OF ASTRONAUT ALAN B. SHEPARD JR ON MOON SURFACE AS14-66-9230 Iconic photography of the Space Era, certified by NASA and taken in 1971. Printed on KODAK paper. Dimensions: 20 x 25 cm. Provenance: NASA. Apollo 14 was the eighth crewed mission in the United States Apollo program, the third to land on the Moon, and the first to land in the lunar highlands. It was the last of the “H missions”, landings at specific sites of scientific interest on the Moon for two-day stays with two lunar extravehicular activities (EVAs or moonwalks). Astronaut Alan B. Shepard Jr., Apollo 14 commander, shades his eyes from the sun during the Apollo 14 extravehicular activity (EVA) on the Moon. This photograph was taken by Astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, lunar module pilot, through the window of the Lunar Module. LOT 1575 RARE ORIENTED CHONDRITE METEORITE North West Africa. Exceptional Chondrite meteorite with regmaglypts. 4.55 billion years. Dimension: 17 x 17 cm. Weight: 3098 g. Provenance: Private Italian collection. Oriented meteorites have frozen in their shape and surface the record of their fiery passage through the Earth’s atmosphere. All meteorites arrive on the surface of our world by the same experience, but only the rare few that are stable during flight will show the marks of ablation and accumulation. These are the oriented meteorites and are the rarest kind of chondrites. Some of these marks are radial flow lines, splattered material clinging to the sides behind the forward surface, and lips and ridges of melted material that has flowed as liquid back from the front. These marks are called regmaglypts. Chondrites are stony (non-metallic) meteorites that have not been modified due to melting or differentiation of the parent body. They are formed when various types of dust and small grains that were present in the early solar system accreted to form primitive asteroids. Their study provides important clues for understanding the origin and age of the Solar System, the synthesis of organic compounds, the origin of life and the presence of water on Earth. Chondrites were formed by the accretion of particles of dust and grit present in the primitive Solar System which gave rise to asteroids over 4.55 billion years ago. These asteroid parent bodies of chondrites are (or were) small to medium-sized asteroids that were never part of any body large enough to undergo melting and planetary differentiation. The scientific community generally accepts that these spheres were formed by the action of a shock wave that passed through the Solar System, although there is little agreement as to the cause of this shock wave. An article published in 2005 proposed that the gravitational instability of the gaseous disk that formed Jupiter generated a shock wave with a velocity of more than 10 km/s, which resulted in the formation of the chondrules. LOT 1576 ORIGINAL WOLVERINE CLAWS FROM X-MEN: THE LAST STAND A pair of screen used claws worn by Hugh Jackman in his role as Wolverine in X-Men: The Last Stand, 2006. Resin blades with angled metal grip. Dimensions: 26 cm. Provenance: American private collection. Wolverine’s claws have become synonymous with the X-men films and are as iconic today in representing the superhero as Superman’s “S” or Batman’s bat signal. With later films in the series using fully CGI claws, these represents a rare opportunity to acquire the most instantly recognizable prop from one of the most successful film franchise of all time. These claws were crafted by famous special effect artist James Gawley know as Jimmy Claws for being the designer of the iconic Wolverine claws in the X-men franchise. Wolverine is the typical antihero that emerged in American popular culture after the Vietnam War: his willingness to use deadly force and his brooding nature became standard characteristics for comic book antiheroes by the end of the 1980s. As a result, the character became a fan favorite of the increasingly popular X-Men franchise, and has been featured in his own solo comic book series since 1988. His most characteristic feature are his claws: while originally depicted as bionic implants created by the Weapon X program, the claws are later revealed to be a natural part of his body. The claws are not made of keratin, as claws tend to be in the animal kingdom, but extremely dense bone. Wolverine‘s hands do not have openings for the claws to move through: they cut through his flesh every time he extrudes them, with occasional references implying that he feels a brief moment of slight pain in his hands when he unsheathes them. On more than one occasion, Wolverine‘s entire skeleton, including his claws, has been molecularly infused with adamantium. Due to their coating, his claws can cut almost any known solid material, including most metals, wood, and some varieties of stone. X-Men: The Last Stand is a 2006 superhero film based on the X-Men superhero team introduced in Marvel Comics. It is the sequel to 2003‘s X2, as well as the third installment in the X-Men film series. Filming took place from August 2005 to January 2006 with a budget of 0 million, and was consequently the most expensive film made at the time of its release. It had extensive visual effects created by 11 different companies.
