548 Meister des Brokathintergrundes, tätig um 1480 – 1500 MARIA LACTANS Öl und Goldgrund auf Holz. 43 x 29 cm. Beigebeben technische Analyse von Prof. Dr. Manfred Schreiner, das Alter des Werkes bestätigend, sowie Untersuchung von Ludwig Meyer mit Nennung verschiedener Vergleichsbeispiele. Die mittelgroße Holztafel zeigt Maria in Halbfigur. Sie hält das Kind in den Armen und gibt ihm die Brust. Oberkörper gerade gerichtet, der Kopf anmutig nach rechts geneigt mit nachdenklichem, nach unten gerichtetem Blick, mit halb geschlossenen Augenlidern. Das Kind blickt zur Mutter empor, die Augen leicht schläfrig wiedergegeben, beide Händchen des Kindes sind ebenfalls nach oben gerichtet. Entgegen der ikonographischen Tradition trägt Maria über ihrem roten Kleid und einem aubergine-grauem Überkleid einen grünen Mantel, der nicht gänzlich über den Kopf zieht, wobei darunter das beinahe schon ornamental gefaltete, weiße Tuch hervortritt, überhangen von welligem gold-braunen Haar. Bekannt wurde der Meister durch die Verwendung eines Goldgrundes mit Brokatmusterung, wie auch im vorliegenden Gemälde, hier flankiert von seitlichen Hintergrundzonen in ochsenblutroter, leicht marmorierter Farbgebung. So will der Goldgrund als ein hochgespanntes Brokattuch verstanden werden. Der Unterrand als breites schwarzes Band, bemalt mit zweizeiliger gotischer gelb-goldfarbiger Aufschrift „Ave Regina dolorum et virgis angelorum Maria flos domini...“ Die lateinische Huldigung in Form eines Anrufungstextes der Marienverehrung, die in diesem Jahrhundert eine neue Blüte erlebt hatte.
